Guide to buying Electrical / Electronic products on 20NorthElectric or Electronic products manufactured or sold in the US are usually rated 110V/60Hertz. However, in India, the electrical output is 220V/50Hertz. Therefore plugging a product rated 110V into a 220V outlet would kill it immediately. In many instances using a simple locally available 220V-110V step-down transformer will allow you to use the 110V rated product here in India. However, a cheap transformer may not change the elecrical frequency or cycle (Hertz). This change in Hertz can affect speeds of motors (damaging them irrepairably) and may cause clocks to lose time rapidly and cause many appliances to run inefficiently. Different appliances react differently to the change in frequency. Customer due-diligence: US Merchants, while uploading the product details into 20North online catalog may or may not supply the Voltage rating of a product. In such instances, we recommend that, this information be clearly ascertained by you, by visiting the product manufacturers website or by calling 20North customer support. 20North is not responsible should you plug an item into incorrect voltage and burn it up. Dual Voltage: Some devices have a 110-220V switch on the back which allows you to change the voltage depending upon what country you are in. Change this to 220V, before plugging into any electrical outlet in India. Some appliances are built to work within a range of voltage and cycles. If the power specification reads "INPUT: 110V-240V 60Hz/50Hz" then it will work in India straight out of the box. |
