The screen is very good, all details are quite visible and voice directions are clear and understandable. My first expression was like Wah. But after using it on a route which I know perfectly well, I noticed that device sometimes doesn't indicate where to go on Y-type road split. So you can relay on the picture on a screen only. It is not convenient on a complicated many-splits way, like if you're exiting G. Washington bridge in Manhatten

Car power Cord was too short. The plug-in for our vehicle is behind the console & the cord does not reach. Have not been able to use it as we are trying to find a longer cord.

    Map routing is pathetic

The map routing is pathetic. I should have gone for a Garmin Nuvi like the one I had before. The GPS is inexpensive and you pay for this.

Cost, ease of operations and a big screen are just some of the factors that make this GPS great. For those of us who are boomers, the large screen is a plus. Instructions are easy to follow and the thing even reroutes you when you make a wrong turn ( on purpose or you need to get fuel in a different direction than the one imputed.) It acquires the signal quickly and does all that is asked of it and then some. Next, I am going to get the real time traffic unit that gives more info on traffic and detours. If you can follow directions even a cave MAN can do it. For the women ( since you follow directions) its a breeze.

I bought a refurbished Megellan 1470 but the warranty has expired. It's an awesome unit with a large screen. The sound is audible, and it's perfect for those who don't care for all the bells and whistles. The problem I'm having with mine is it turns off while you are driving on long trips. Sometimes I don't even notice it because I might be on a long stretch of highway. It is so annoying to look up and see a blank screen. I have to turn it back on, in which it picks up your exact location and it hasn't lost your destination information. On a 6 hour trip, the gps cut off about 7 times while it was plugged in to the charger. I'm gonna call Megellan to see if there is something they can do to assist me with this matter. Seems a lot of users are 100% satisfied with the 1470. I own 2 1440's and they work perfect. I will update after speaking with customer service. Even with the gps cutting off, I still went to my destination without error.
